Creating a Successful Lesson

In this page, you'll discover how I design instruction using clear objectives, curriculum standards, and research-based teaching strategies.

Aligning Lessons to SHAPE America Standards & Hawaiʻi DOE health/PE benchmarks

My lesson planning begins with a focus to align with SHAPE America Standards and Hawaiʻi DOE health/PE benchmarks. Effective planning ensures that every lesson is purposeful, developmentally appropriate, and accessible for all learners. My preparation process reflects a commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and the consistent use evidence-based practices to support student success in both physical and health education.

Creating age-appropriate activities with research based-teaching strategies.

I design age-appropriate activities by aligning tasks with students' developmental stages, physical abilities, and cognitive readiness. Using direct instruction and guided discovery to structure my learning effectively. I ensure that activities are meaningful and relevant to students' real life experiences so they stay engaged and motivated. Incorporating opportunities for students to explore and play, knowing that hands-on, active learning is especially effective for younger students. I will embed peer collaboration and social interaction because research shows that students learn best when working with and learning from others!

Material and Equipment Preparation

Before teaching, I prepare:

  • Skill-specific equipment (balls, cones, hula hoops)
  • Technology resources (Google Classroom, Google Docs, Youtube to show demo videos, timers.)
  • Visual supports (posters, diagrams, and cue cards)
  • Spatial organization

This preparation ensures smooth transitions, maximizes activity time, and maintains a safe and efficient learning environment. Ensure that each student remains active and engaged throughout the lesson, maximizing each student's learning potential.
